Investing for Tomorrow was founded with one clear and powerful mission – to increase financial and investment literacy among South Africans and empower individuals to take control of their financial future and wellbeing.
The initiative was established in 2004 by Herb Lewis. His exposure to the investment industry began initially in the United States and then at Investec in Johannesburg. While at Investec it became very apparent how little investors understood about the products in which their money was invested and how important it is for investors to be well informed about the nature of their investments. Herb felt there was a huge opportunity to present courses on investment and retirement planning to companies and other groups of people.
In a country where millions of people face financial pressures daily – often without access to trusted guidance or practical education – this initiative was created to fill a critical gap in the workplace wellness landscape.
Herb is the founder of Investing For Tomorrow. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), pursued further studies in Computer Science and is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute in the United States (FLMI). He is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) with the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa (FPI) with over 30 years of experience in South Africa and the United States.
Herb initially started his career in the United States for eight years followed by a five-year period at Investec, in both cases in a financial product development and design role. Herb has extensive experience in the range of investment and retirement products and the underlying life insurance and unit trust funds in the South African marketplace and is therefore well positioned to provide both educational workshops and advisory services.
Tayla is a law graduate (BA Law & LLB) from the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS) and is currently gaining practical experience under Herb Lewis’ supervision. She is in the process of completing the required financial courses and regulatory exams in accordance with the FAIS Act, with the goal of establishing a successful career as a financial planner.
Tayla applies fastidious attention to detail in her daily work, has an unparalleled work ethic and an inherent and deep sense of responsibility that is so necessary given the importance of her work in safe-guarding and growing investors’ life savings.
